The cash for clunkers program, which was limited to one billion dollars in funding, was suspended at midnight at the end of Thursday July 30. The program, which started on July 24, and had been subject to last minute changes in vehicle eligibility, has suddenly run close to its allocated one-billion dollar funding limit according to two sources (SFGate, Fox). According to an AP article, after dealerships raised concerns over a large backlog of orders, the Transportation Department planned the abrupt suspension of the program and contacted congressional officials.

A comprehensive list of vehicles that are eligible for the 'cash for clunkers' program has been compiled by edmunds.com.
Just before the program is to be initiated, the EPA changed the eligibility of certain vehicles. Let me state this carefully -- If your vehicle is on the edmunds.com list above your vehicle most-likely qualifies. period. If your curious about the deletions from the above list, USA Today has compiled a list for the now ineligible vehicles (no longer eligible vehicles).
